Superb Volunteers! Posted July 2014 July 2014 - Papaya Academy has it's aim to develop the whole child - spiritual, moral, intellectual, social and physical aspects. This month of July, Papaya Academy visited by (8) superb volunteers. They came not only to visit Papaya Academy but offer trainings, seminars and donations to help Papaya Academy attains its main goals. Children of Papaya Academy were very glad and amazed to see lots of foreigners came from different part of the world just to see them. They (the children) liked to mingle, play and chat with volunteers just to feel that they were not alone in this world; that they were also a kid and has right to be loved. Because, several children of Papaya Academy faced or facing sad stories and not good experiences, like they had lost their parents, they were abandoned, they had separated parents and even abused. And having volunteers in the school, it makes them more feel that they’re important, that there were lots of people around the world who loved them and cared for them as what they are. Marieke and Carmen, volunteers came from Netherlands visited Papaya Academy to give trainings and seminars for the children. This was their second time visiting Papaya Academy, the first time they visit the school was last school year giving a training entitled "Growing Up!" for the girls. The main objective of this training is to provide information and awareness of all the things that girls were experiencing in their body as they grew up. The successful training last year lasts for 2 months and the children loves it very much. This month they conducted the same training but this time it's for the boys. Like Marieke and Carmen, a volunteer also came to Papaya Academy but not to give trainings but to help Papaya Academy seek for donations. He is Kiran, a photo journalist who has a big heart to help less privilege children pursue their dreams. He posts pictures and stories in his website (http://www.imkiran.com) to help the school seeks for donations to provide the good quality of education for their children. This 23rd of July this year, Kiran got some funds from his friends to buy approximately 200 pieces of bags and socks for the children as donations. Children were very excited to use their NEW bags and socks so they wore it as soon as they had it. Also, before the month of July ends, a family from Netherlands came to visit        Papaya Academy. They’re here in Papaya Academy to share their talents in different fields of experties,        they are Uncle Johan (Father), Auntie Sylvia (Mother), Anne (oldest daughter), Timo (son) and Michelle        (youngest daughter). This family was the first family who visit and offers training in Papaya Academy. Uncle Johan and Timo organized a soccer clinic for grade 4 - 6. Even though Philippines was known for being basketball addict, this time chil- dren of Papaya Academy held and play more the soccer ball than to basketball in their free time. This sports clinic, introduces new sport to play with other children and teaches them (the children) the sportsmanship attitude which is needed for becoming a player. On the other hand, Auntie Sylvia joined with her daughters (Anne and Michelle) lead the  grades 1 - 3 for story telling. Children were attentively listening and amazed with the stories they tell. This activity helps the children to practice their listening skills and develop creativity with their imaginations towards everything. There are lots of activies this family prepared for the next days to come for the children of Papaya Academy. Same with Kiran, Uncle Johan and his family collected some funds which were came from their colleagues and friends in Netherlands to donate in the school. The funds were allocated into several school necessities like sport equipments, appliances (fridge and electric fans) and school supplies. These donations were really help the school provides the quality education and better environment for the children. Papaya Academy were still very strong because of these kind of act, volunteering. Because of this, we proved that Sherry Anderson’s quote is correct which tells. "Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re PRICELESS!". . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
